Why the Be-Do-Have Model Is a Powerful Tool for Clarity and Transformation
The Be-Do-Have model is one of my all-time favorite rituals for aligning with my visions and creating meaningful change in my life. It’s like programming an inner GPS that helps you navigate where you want to go, who you want to become, and the actions needed to get there.
This simple yet profound tool has been widely used in coaching and personal development circles. I first discovered it in the Conversations with God books, and it has stuck with me as a trusted companion in my journey of growth and transformation.
What Makes This Exercise So Valuable?
Life can feel overwhelming at times, with so many goals, dreams, and responsibilities pulling us in different directions. The Be-Do-Have framework helps cut through the noise, bringing clarity to any area of your life. By breaking your vision into three manageable steps—who you want to BE, what you want to DO, and what you want to HAVE—you can start creating a roadmap that’s simple, actionable, and aligned with your true self.
Here’s why it works:
- It simplifies complexity. Instead of overthinking, you focus on what’s truly important in the present moment.
- It fosters self-awareness. You get clear on who you need to become to bring your goals to life.
- It keeps you grounded. By revisiting your statements regularly, you can stay connected to your intentions, especially during moments of doubt or distraction.

Bringing It All Together
Once you’ve outlined your Be-Do-Have, reflect on this question:
Who do I need to BE to make these dreams a reality?
The key is to approach this with honesty and simplicity. Don’t overthink it—just write down what comes to mind. Save your list where you can easily access it and refer back to it throughout the year. Think of it as your personal compass, helping you stay on track and aligned with your deeper purpose.
